چکیده

Practical reasoning (PR), which is concerned with the generic question of whatto do, is generally seen as a two steps process: (1) deliberation, in which an agentdecides what state of affairs it wants to reach –that is, its desires; and (2) means-ends reasoning, in which the agent looks for plans for achieving these desires. The agent’s intentions are a consistent set of desires that are achievable together. This paper proposes the first argumentation system for PR that computes inone step the possible intentions of an agent, avoiding thus the drawbacks of theexisting systems. The proposed system is grounded on a recent work on con-strained argumentation systems, and satisfies the rationality postulates identifiedin argumentation literature, namely the consistency and the completeness of theresults.

A constrained argumentation system for practical reasoning

Practical reasoning (PR), which is concerned with the generic question of what to do, is generally seen as a two steps process: (1) deliberation, in which an agent decides what state of affairs it wants to reach –that is, its desires; and (2) means-ends reasoning, in which the agent looks for plans for achieving these desires. A desire is justified if it holds in the current state of the world,...

Probabilistic abstract argumentation: an investigation with Boltzmann machines

Probabilistic argumentation and neuro-argumentative systems offer new computational perspectives for the theory and applications of argumentation, but their principled construction involve two entangled problems. On the one hand, probabilistic argumentation aims at combining the quantitative uncertainty addressed by probability theory with the qualitative uncertainty of argumentation, but proba...

Scientific Argumentation Detection as Limited-domain Intention Recognition

We describe the task of intention-based text understanding for scientific argumentation. The model of scientific argumentation presented here is based on the recognition of 28 concrete rhetorical moves in text. These moves can in turn be associated with higherlevel intentions. The intentions we aim to model operate in the limited domain of scientific argumentation and justification; it is the l...

A Social Collaboration Argumentation System for Generating Multi- Faceted Answers in Question & Answer Communities

In this paper, we propose an innovative approach for the development of social collaboration argumentation systems. These systems enable a community to collaboratively create answers to questions where many possible answers, or nuanced perspectives on a single answer, can be posited. We examine the emergence of critical reasoning via crowdsourced structured discussions, which are built upon a g...
